FARM TOOLS

The most extensive category in our collection is farm tools, no doubt because this was the most prevalent occupation of early town residents.  We have the following items on display:

Cradle scythe with handhold, buck saw, rip saws, roofer's mallet, cobbler’s stand and lasts, hand tools, shingling hatchet, wagon jack, braces and bits, draw knives, steelyard, potato planter, foot powered grindstone, hay forks, wooden rakes, manure forks, hoes, roofing hammer, draw knives, plow and seed planter, saws and a wagon jack.

Assortment of hand tools

Wagon jack

Cattle probe.  Two probes are shown.  The top one is separated to show the sharp pointed shaft and the tube that slides over it.  The probe was inserted into the cow's stomach and then the shaft was removed to allow the gas to escape out the tube.

Corn planter

Miniature how for weeding seedlings

Foot powered grinder for sharpening sickle bar mower blades

Pliers for removing infected teeth from cows and horses.

Special thanks to Reta Hayes who provided many of the tools for the display
